ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A firefighter is hurt and six adults are displaced after an apartment fire late Sunday night.
Around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, the Rockford Fire Department responded to the 600 block of North Rockton Avenue for reports of a fire at an apartment. Officials saw smoke coming from the second story of the building and worked to quickly extinguish the flames.
An investigator at the scene determined the fire started in the kitchen and the cause was accidental. One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns to his hands. He was treated and released.
All occupants of this four-story complex were able to exit safely. The building was deemed uninhabitable. Six adults are displaced by this fire. The Red Cross is assisting the residents.
The damages are estimated at $25,000.
