Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters extinguished separate kitchen fires that damaged Central and East Contra Costa County homes Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a single-alarm structure fire after a neighbor saw smoke coming from the eaves of a residence in the 100 block of Belmont Court in Pleasant Hill.
When they arrived, they found a home at least 50 percent engulfed, ConFire spokesman Steve Hill said.
Despite a vigorous attack ending in knockdown by 1:25 p.m., the home suffered “considerable damage” and required a couple of hours’ mop-up, Hill said.
All residents evacuated safely, and were staying with family members living nearby, No monetary estimate of damage was immediately available Tuesday night.
At 3:30 p.m., firefighters received word from Antioch police of a structure fire in the 1900 block of Grizzly Court, and responded within minutes to find a fairly involved fire inside a two-story home with smoke showing on its east side.
Firefighters put up a strong offensive, entering the home to fight difficult-to-reach flames in a first-floor ceiling space and knocking down all fire by 3:47 p.m.
At least three people were displaced from the home, which suffered about $60,000 worth of damage.
At both homes, preliminary investigations suggest stove-tops in kitchens were points of origin, and there were no reports of injuries to firefighters or residents.
