Flames tore through the kitchen of an Escondido home Thursday, inflicting major damage to the cooking area and less severe heat and smoke damage to other parts of the house, officials said.
The blaze was reported about 2:15 p.m. at a single-story home near Saratoga Glen and Pasatiempo Glen in southern Escondido, in a neighborhood north of Kit Carson Park, Escondido fire Battalion Chief Andre Paredes said in a statement.
Firefighters needed about 15 minutes to knock down the flames, which inflicted major damage to the kitchen, Paredes said. Some adjacent rooms sustained moderate heat and smoke damage.
A man who was in the house was evaluated for possible smoke inhalation, but released by paramedics at the scene, Paredes said. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday evening, authorities said.
