Two cyclists were beaten and robbed in separate incidents less than an hour apart and in the same area of Hell’s Kitchen, police and sources said Tuesday.
A 32-year-old was riding a Citi Bike on 12th Avenue in the bike lane between West 56th and West 57th streets around 10:15 p.m. Monday when a group of five to six men blocked his path, police said.
The crowd knocked the man off his bike, punched him repeatedly and beat him with a cane, police said. The men then took his Apple AirPods, his debit card and the Citi Bike he was using before fleeing.
The victim suffered bruising and cuts to his face and a bloody nose, but was otherwise unharmed, police said.
About 45 minutes later, a 59-year-old was riding home and was near 12th Avenue and West 57th Street when a group of six men, whom he described as teenagers, approached and shoved him off his bike, police and sources said.
The group pummeled him before snatching his bag and cellphone and bolting, police sources said. The victim later recovered his belongings.
He was taken to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his face and knees, cops said.
The attackers are still on the loose, cops said.
